Hillary Clinton is dropping in the polls, due in large part to the combined effects of her ongling email server scandal and the steady stream of WikiLeaks documents’ dumps revealing backroom discussions of her aides, and voters this week, by and large, are going for Donald Trump.
As the mainstream ABC News puts it: “Strong enthusiasm for Hillary Clinton has ebbed since the renewal of the FBI’s email investigation.”
I’ll say.
Trump has actually taken the lead with likely voters around the nation.
The latest ABC News/Washington Post tracking poll shows Trump at 46 percent and Clinton, 45 percent.
Clinton’s favor with the voters is dropping big time in recent days – coincidentally, at the same time FBI’s James Comey announced his agency would be taking a look at another 650,000 or so emails found on disgraced former congressman Anthony Weiner’s laptop that could include off-the-radar messages between Clinton and Huma Abedin.
Her falling star also comes as the price tag for Obamacare is shocking the system of scores of Americans across the country. And one of Trump’s big platforms?
Dismantle the socialist health care program put in place by President Obama. Clinton, on the other hand, wants to preserve and even expand it.
Look at what ABC News found: “Strong enthusiasm for Clinton has lost 7 points since the start of tracking, especially Friday through Sunday. This is possibly an after-effect of the renewed controversy over her use of a private email server while secretary of state. Trump’s strong enthusiasm has held steady in tracking, which started Oct. 20.”
The one-point difference separating Trump and Clinton is admittedly well within the margin of error. But what a difference in media tone that one-point separation makes.
Over the last few weeks, voters have heard nothing but the average six-point lead Clinton maintained over Trump was the proof positive that the Democrats would take the White House this November 8. But now?
Now that Trump’s jumped to the lead in even the left-leaning pollsters’ minds, the public’s treated to this, from the media: Oh, let’s remember, polls aren’t scientific.
From ABC News:
“The 1-point Clinton-Trump race overall is well within the survey’s margin of sampling error. Combining the last seven nights –- across which results have been very stable –- the results flip to 46-45 percent, Clinton-Trump, with .4 percentage point gap. Again, it is not a significant difference.
“Either way, the results are exceedingly close. Trump’s +1 is a noteworthy result; he’s led Clinton numerically just once before, +2 in late May (among registered voters in a two-way test), after he clinched the GOP nomination while Clinton was still in a duel with Bernie Sanders in the Democratic race.”
Key quotes: “Again, it is not a significant difference.” And “either way, the results are exceedingly close.”
Note to Democrats, mainstream media and those even on the right who’ve done nothing but scoff Trump’s run at the White House, every step of his way: Trump’s leading.
And spin all you want, the message at the end of the day is still: Trump’s leading.
