Left-leaning leaders like Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck have come out strong against Donald Trump’s campaign vow to deport illegals, and despite the fact both are in the business of upholding law and protecting the safety of citizens, they’ve issued blunt statements that say, in effect: We’re not going to abide any White House mandate to deport.
Both, in fact, say the opposite: Our cities, already sanctuary, will stay a shelter from any deportation storm.
Are these people that married to the idea of open borders that they’re already taking on the newly elected president and sending a message of civil, perhaps criminal, disobedience? Apparently.
This, from Emanuel, according to statements printed by Fox News: “‘To all those who are, after Tuesday’s election, very nervous and filled with anxiety as we’ve spoken to, you are safe in Chicago, you are secure in Chicago and you are supported in Chicago. Chicago will always be a sanctuary city.'”
Emanuel also pledged his city’s support for any illegal who might face deportation intimidation from the soon-to-be-seated Trump administration. Specifically, he advised anyone hassled by deportation drama to contact the city’s 311 center for legal assistance – a bold-faced statement that nearly moves his rhetoric into the realm of aiding and abetting criminal behavior.
And Beck – can’t forget Beck.
He, too, came out and announced his sanctuary city, under his watch, would not help in the deportation of illegals, no matter what Trump policies might come.
His words, as reported by the Los Angeles Times: “I don’t intend on doing anything different. We are not going to engage in law enforcement activities solely based on somebody’s immigration status. We are not going to work in conjunction with Homeland Security on deportation efforts. That is not our job, nor will I make it our job.”
Umm … how about the job of protecting and serving? Is that something in Beck’s job description? Or Emanuel’s, for that matter?
Let’s remember that Trump rode into office, in part, on a wave of anger and outrage over the daytime murder of Kate Steinle, the San Francisco woman who was gunned down by a previously deported illegal immigrant with a criminal background whose main reason for being in the city was due to its sanctuary status. It was Trump who spoke out harshly against this incident; it was Trump who vowed to lead a White House that would put a stop to such further acts of senseless crimes. How? By removing the factor that’s not only the easiest to target, but also the most insanely senseless – the presence of the criminal illegal in America in the first place.
Trump confirmed in a recent “60 Minutes” interview on CBS one of his administration’s priorities would be to go after the criminal illegal immigrant element for prosecution and deportation.
But to Beck, Emanuel and others of similar left-leaning ilk?
It’s Trump who’s mad. It’s Trump’s supporters who’ve gone off the rails.
Apparently, to those on the far left, disapproving of illegals’ murders of citizens, or even suspecting illegals of anything untoward or criminal, is racist. And that’s a thought crime that just can’t be tolerated at any cost – even if it means breaking law and disobeying White House mandate.
