New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, concerned about what he says is a “social crisis’ generated by so-called sexist, bigoted and racist rhetoric from Donald Trump and the president-elect’s many supporters, announced a new initiative Sunday to combat hate crimes and uphold civil rights.
Cuomo outlined the initiative in a speech to the mostly black congregation of New York City’s Abyssinian Baptist Church, on the heels of expressions of outrage and concern from the ACLU and other civil rights groups over recent incidents seen as racially motivated and tied to Trump’s politicking.
“The ugly politicl discourse of the election did not end on Election Day,” said the Democrat governor, Reuters reported. “In many ways, it has gotten worse, into a social crisis that now challenges our identify as a state and as a nation and our people.”
So what’s Cuomo going to do?
Check it out:
First, he’s going to create a special unit within New York’s state police to go after hate crime. Second, he’s going to propose legislation to bolster anti-discrimination measures in public schools. And third, he’s going to set up a private-public legal defense fund for immigrants who can’t afford lawyers to fight off perceived discrimination using the courts.
On that last: In other words, illegal immigrants upset they don’t have the same rights as citizens and think they’re being discriminated against because they don’t have those citizen rights will now be able to tap taxpayer dollars to sue.
Reuters reported Cuomo was acting on the basis of reports of a swastika painted on a baseball dugout in one New York village with the phrase, “Make America White Again,” a play on Trump’s signature “Make America Great Again” calling.
But what about all the left-leaning Trump haters who’ve taken to the streets since the November 8 election to smash cars, destroy properties, clash with police, halt traffic, and cause whatever other melee they can – all because they don’t like the president-elect and want Hillary Clinton to take the White House seat instead?
Or what about the reports of Trump supporters wearing “MAGA” and “Make America Great Again” caps being targeted by Trump haters, approached on New York City subways, and beaten for their political beliefs? That was a New York incident, as well, and it resulted in the victim actually filing a police report while he recuperated from injuries. Governor?
Curiously, Cuomo doesn’t cite those instances as reason to form a special hate crimes unit within the state’s police agencies. Make no mistake about it: this initiative is all about upholding the amnesty goals of the left while stymying the law and order vision of the right, all while pretending to be acting out of concern over the so-called racism of Trump.
