You probably aleady know how President Donald Trump is fighting with sanctuary cities around the country — you know, the places that shelter illegals, even those illegals who commit crimes.
Trump wants a return to law and order and border control.
Democrats, of course, want amnesty and open borders for all.
Basically, Democratic Party mayors are vowing that no matter what Trump does, even if he strips federal funding from their cities, that they’re not going to stop offering sanctuary for illegals. OK, that’s the fight as it’s been waging in recent weeks.
But now one New Jersey neighborhood leader, the mayor of Prospect Park, Mohamed Khairullah, took the fight a step farther. He signed an executive order declaring his county of almost 6,000 people would remain a santuary community — no matter about Trump, no matter federal law.
Did I mention this mayor’s a Syrian-born Muslim?
But here’s the bigger interest: When Barack Obama was president and he was busy opening the borders to anybody and everybody, Republican-led states tried to put a stop to it.
And Democrats responded by saying, Hey, states, immigration is a federal authority. You don’t have the constitutional right to undercut the feds.
But now that the feds under Trump are trying to halt amnesty and crack down on illegals?
Suddenly, Democrat-controled states and communities are crying “States Rights” and “Tenth Amendment” and saying feds have no right to slow the immigration roll. Sounds like they the left wants it both ways — yes?
Republicans, stand fast. Controling who comes into the country is in fact a lawful, constitutional government function.
